Abstract

Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in Southeast Asia which has around 17,499 islands. One of the islands in Indonesia is the Riau Archipelago consisting of coasts and highlands. Batam City is a Riau Archipelago district which is surrounded by the sea. This situation makes a lot of beach tourism and a variety of marine flora and fauna. Lion fish is a marine fauna that can be found in the waters of Batam City. This fish contains poison in its spines which can cause pain, burning, numbness and weakness. Non-pharmacological therapy that can be applied to reduce pain intensity is hot compresses. The purpose of this study was to see the effectiveness of applying hot compresses to reducing pain intensity in fishbite lionfish patients at Batam City Hospital. After the assessment was carried out, it was found that the client complained of pain, grimace and anxiety so that the priority nursing diagnosis in this case study was acute pain related to physical injury agents. After applying the hot compress, it was found that there was a decrease in the pain scale from before the intervention, namely a scale of 7 severe pain to 4 moderate pain. Pain symptoms such as grimacing, crying, restlessness and rapid pulse also improve. It is expected that health workers can apply hot compresses with temperatures between 42oC – 45oC for 30 minutes in patients with lion fish stings to reduce pain intensity.
