Abstract

Breast milk is an ideal food that is safe for babies, clean, and contains antibodies that help protect against many common childhood diseases. To successfully practice exclusive breastfeeding, mothers need social support from close relatives as well as from the health system as a whole. This research aims to analyze the influence of family support, health workers and social culture on exclusive breastfeeding in the coastal area of Kendari City. This research method involved 177 mothers who had babies 6-12 months in the coastal area of Kendari City, especially at 2 Community Health Centers, namely at Abeli Health Center and Benu-Benua Health Center which were selected using purposive sampling using a cross sectional study design. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test. The research results show that there is an influence of family support, support from health workers, mother's knowledge on exclusive breastfeeding where the p value <α (0.05). Meanwhile, the variables cultural values, and belief or trust have no influence on exclusive breastfeeding where the p value> α (0.05). It can be concluded that family support, support from health workers, and mother's knowledge play an important role in providing exclusive breastfeeding which has an impact on improving the health of toddlers.
