Abstract

Optimal breastfeeding is important. Early breastfeeding initiation (IMD) is one of the factors that determine the success of exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months. The benefits of IMD include reducing the risk of maternal mortality, increasing the chances of successful exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months, preventing neonatal deaths, and increasing closeness and affection between mother and child (Ekaristi et al., 2017). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between early breastfeeding initiation (IMD) and exclusive breastfeeding in West Halmahera district. Early breastfeeding (IMD) must be done for the success of exclusive breastfeeding and for the health of mothers and babies. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the implementation of early breastfeeding initiation and exclusive breastfeeding with exclusive breastfeeding in children aged 0-10 months at the Jailolo Health Center, West Halmahera Regency. This type of research used analytic research with a case control study design. Sampling was done by purposive sampling with a total sample of 40 mothers. This study was conducted in the Jailolo Health Center area, West Halmahera Regency. This data analysis used chi square. The results showed that IMD has a significant relationship with exclusive breastfeeding. The statistical test results obtained p value = 0.055. This shows that there is a relationship between the IMD variable (Early Breastfeeding Initiation) and Exclusive Breastfeeding (p<0.05) so that the H1 Hypothesis is accepted that there is a relationship between Early Breastfeeding Initiation and exclusive breastfeeding in babies 0-10 months in the Jailolo Health Center area, West Halmahera Regency. Conclusion: There is a relationship between early breastfeeding initiation (IMD) and exclusive breastfeeding in infants 0-10 months with a p value of 0.055.
