Abstract

Labor often results in tears of the birth canal, both in primigravida and in multigravida with indications of a stiff perineum. To control spontaneous perineal tears, an episiotomy is performed to reduce pain and ensure that the wound is regular. In Indonesia, perineal wounds are experienced by 75% of women giving birth vaginally. The problem that often occurs in post partum women is the lack of knowledge of mothers in taking care of perineal wounds. The birth canal opening is a good medium for the development of germs so that it becomes the cause of infection. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between maternal knowledge level and perineal care in postpartum women on days 2-7 at Jailolo Hospital, West Halmahera Regency. This type of research is analytical survey research, research that is directed to explain a situation or situation with a cross sectional approach. While the sampling technique used total sampling which amounted to 32 people. The research tool used was a questionnaire. The statistical test used in this study is the Chi-Square Test with SPSS. After being analyzed using the chi-square statistical test, the P-value (asymp. Sig 2-tailed) was 0.000 <0.05, which means that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and perineal care. Then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and perineal care.
