Abstract

 Palm sugar (Arenga pinnata (Wurmb.)
Merr.) is a plant belonging to the family
Palmae that functions as traditional
medicine. The root of sugar palm contains
saponins, flavonoids, and polyphenols,
flavonoids which allegedly has the power to
dissolve calcium kidney stones. The purpose
of this study to prove the ability dissolving root
sugar palm extracts to calcium kidney stones
and to determine the optimal concentration of
root sugar palm extracts that can dissolve
calcium kidney stones.
This research included true
experimental research. Palm sugar roots were
extracted by maceration method using
methanol: water (1:1), obtained extract was
condensed and then made a series of levels,
namely: 9%, 18%, 27%, 32%, 45%,
(v/v). Then from a series of levels is used to
soak of calcium kidney stones for ±5 hours at
37 0C with suffle every hour. Results of
immersion measured turbidity with
Turbidimeter. Turbidity values used to
calculate the dissolved calcium content using
standard curves of calcium oxalate. Dissolved
calcium concentration data was then tested by
one way Anova 95% confidence level.
Result showed that the root extract
palm sugar with levels of 9%, 18%, 27%, 32%,
45% (v/v) has the capacity to dissolve calcium
kidney stones. Optimal levels of palm root
extract that can dissolve calcium kidney
stones is 32% v/v. Results of statistical
analysis using one-way anova with 95%
confidence level showed no significant
differences from each levels of root palm
sugar extracts (significance <0.005).
