Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is the main cause of death in many developing countries. The high incidence of pulmonary TB can be due to low levels of knowledge, poor health behavior and a home environment such as ventilation, lighting, humidity, housing density that does not meet the requirements. "The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between knowledge and behavior to prevent transmission and the incidence of tuberculosis in Legok Village, Jambi City." This research is a descriptive analytical study with a case control design, consisting of 10 case samples and 10 control cases. The research data collected is in the form of nominal data which is then converted into categorical data so that using the chi square test with a significance limit of 5% or the P-value is said to be significant < 0.05. The results of the study showed that 2 (20.0%) respondents experienced Tuberculosis who had sufficient knowledge, while in the control group there were 3 (30.0%) respondents who experienced Tuberculosis. The statistical test results show an Odds Ratio value of 9.33. Respondents had good Tuberculosis prevention behavior, while in the control group there were 3 (30.0%) respondents who had poor Tuberculosis prevention behavior. The statistical test results show an Odds Ratio value of 16, which means that someone who does not have preventive behavior will be 16 times more likely to suffer from pulmonary TB than someone who has TB preventive behavior. The conclusion of the research is that in order to prevent the incidence of tuberculosis, it is necessary to have good knowledge of family members about TB and always take precautions such as safe coughing, healthy changes and so on.
